Sabras Radio's Gujarat Earthquake Relief Fund

"The 2001 Gujarat earthquake was the most devastating earthquake in India in recent history. It began on January 26, 2001 at 8:46 in the morning, centered near Bhuj in Gujarat, India. Rated at 6.9 on the Richter scale, the quake killed upwards of 30,000 people and injured at least as many throughout Gujarat and parts of Eastern Pakistan.

Following this tragic event, it was decided by Sabras Radio to set up the Sabras Earthquake Releif Fund (SERF) as a way of channelling the donations of its listeners and supporters and identifying specific causes to which to donate the funds it raised. In the year February 2001 to March 2002, SERF collected just over £170,000 from its listeners and organisations in the local community." *
